  • Development of a Vitality Assessment Tool
In collaboration with ArboNed, one of the major Dutch Occupational Health and Safety Services, a screenings instrument is being developed to assess individual psychosocial health and well-being of managers. Results are fed back to the individual managers by an occupational physician or psychologist, but may also be aggregated, for instance at the level of departments. The so-called ‘Vitality Assessment Tool’, that is available through intranet, includes stressors, motivators, personal resources, skills and competencies, and various indicators of health and well-being. The Tool is only available in Dutch.

  • Measurement, conceptualization and enhancement of work engagement
Work engagement is defined as a positive, fulfilling, work-related state of mind that is characterized by vigor (i.e. high levels of energy and mental resilience), dedication (i.e., exceptionally strong involvement in one’s work), and absorption (i.e., being totally engrossed in one’s work). The concept is assessed by the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES) that is freely available in about one dozen languages. At present an international data-base exists of about 15.000 UWES records from ten countries.

  • Measurement, conceptualization and reduction of workaholism
Workaholism or work addiction or is characterized by an irresistible inner drive to work very hard; it is a combination of working compulsively and excessively. Both components are assessed by the Dutch Work Addiction Scale (DUWAS). English and Dutch versions are freely available.
